News release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Rivergreenway at Maplecrest Extension now open
City, New Haven crews cleared silt, debris from other sections of Maumee Pathway following spring’s high-water events

(June 14, 2011) – The section of the Rivergreenway adjacent to the construction of the Maplecrest Road extension is now open, ending a 13-month construction closure between mile markers 4.75 and 5.0 of the Maumee Pathway.

The reopening means the Maumee Pathway between North Anthony Boulevard and the North River Road trailhead is now available to trail users.

In conjunction with the completion of the construction work, crews from the City of Fort Wayne and New Haven/Adams Township Parks and Recreation recently removed the silt and dirt that accumulated on this popular multiuse trail during the spring’s high river levels.

As part of the Maplecrest extension, Allen County is installing a retaining wall bordering to the construction site, however the trail will remain open during that work.

The trail spur and ramp to the Rivergreenway, which will be added as part of the road project, will not open until the Maplecrest Road extension between Lake Avenue and Adams Center Road is complete. The project also includes a 1.5-mile trail along the new roadway.
