United Way Volunteer Honored with Thiele Award

News release from the United Way of Allen County:

United Way Volunteer Honored with Thiele Award

United Way of Allen County volunteer Steve Smith was recently honored with the Monsignor Thiele award at a June 16 breakfast reception at Sycamore Hills. Each year, the Raymond Rosenberger Foundation awards a committed United Way advocate with the Monsignor Thiele award. Monsignor Charles Thiele was rector of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fort Wayne from 1905 to 1938 and a priest in the Fort Wayne Diocese for nearly 53 years, serving under four bishops. Raymond Rosenberger and his parents were parishioners of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Smith is the Chief Executive Officer and Treasurer of Allied Physicians in Fort Wayne. He and his wife Anne Smith have been loyal contributors to United Way of Allen County for more than 40 years.

Smith has served in numerous volunteer positions for United Way of Allen County, including Board of Directors member, Campaign Ambassador and Finance Committee member. Currently, Smith is the Campaign Chair for both the 2010-11 Community Campaign and the 2011-12 Community Campaign.

“United Way is fortunate that Steve uses his exceptional business skills to help our organization grow and improve,” said Todd Stephenson, president and CEO of United Way of Allen County. “Steve’s work, and the work of hundreds of other volunteers, allows United Way to help thousands of local residents in need each year.”
