Stutzman Comments on US Reaching Debt Limit
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Marlin Stutzman (IN-03) commented on America reaching the ‘Debt Ceiling.’ The Federal Government could be in default within the next few weeks, but no later than Aug 2nd. In 2010 the previous Congress decided against lowering spending and increased the Debt Limit to $14.29 trillion. Spending cuts passed by Congress earlier in the year extended the default deadline from early spring to summer by cutting federal spending.
“Now that we have reached the ‘Debt Ceiling’ the rhetoric will continue and we must make the hard decisions for the future of America.” Stutzman commented “We can’t keep spending money we don’t have and there must be stability as the uncertainty is slowing the economy and stifling job creation. We must continue to cut spending in the budget so that we can maintain the promises made to our seniors. It is time for the Senate Democrats and President Obama to come to the table with a serious budget plan of their own.”
Congressman Stutzman represents the 3rd Congressional District of Indiana and serves on the House Committee on Agriculture, the House Committee on the Budget and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity. Indiana’s 3rd District contains all of DeKalb, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Noble, Steuben, and Whitley counties; as well as parts of Allen and Elkhart counties.
