Parkview Field welcomes 1,000,000th guest
Only 24 months after opening, Fort Wayne’s downtown ballpark mixes baseball and special events to reach milestone number

(April 13, 2011) – Parkview Field hosted its 1,000,000th official guest Wednesday night during the IPFW versus Purdue collegiate baseball game.

“We know it’s just a number, but it’s a pretty significant milestone,” said Parkview Field Special Events Manager, Holly Raney. “Parkview Field strives to provide the best in customer service and atmosphere no matter what event is taking place at the ballpark. It’s true that most people experience Parkview Field during a TinCaps game, but throughout the year the facility is home to much more than just baseball.”

Throughout the ballpark’s first 24 months, since April 2009, Parkview Field has hosted 828,934 fans during TinCaps regular season and playoff games – 151 games in all. The 171,066 guests necessary to reach the 1,000,000 person milestone have attended one of 574 non-TinCaps events over the past two years.

“There are certainly the large-scale events that are included in this number,” said Raney. “Events like the Fort 4 Fitness or the Zac Brown Band and MercyMe concerts. But so many of our events are luncheons, banquets, corporate meetings, and parties. We certainly are busy all year round with the interest and demand for the facilities.”

This milestone only accounts for guests that were in attendance of official Parkview Field events. This number does not include the thousands that have come to visit the ballpark during hours the concourse is open to the public (daily from 7:00am until sundown).

“During the warm weather months there can be hundreds of people that take advantage of the third of a mile concourse for walking,” stated Raney. “Not to mention the downtown businesspeople that eat their lunch on a sunny day. There is always a great atmosphere and energy at Parkview Field.”

“Parkview Field has become exactly what people hoped it would be,” said TinCaps Team President, Mike Nutter. “The ballpark was intended to be a community gathering place that would be utilized 365 days a year. Between TinCaps games and the multitude of other events hosted at Parkview Field, it truly has met and exceeded how the facility’s use was envisioned.”

Later this summer the Fort Wayne TinCaps will welcome the 1,000,000th fan to attend Parkview Field during a TinCaps game. Only 171,066 fans away, the TinCaps have partnered with Xfinity to mark the special occasion. One lucky fan will be selected and have a chance to win $1,000,000 that night. The specific date is not known, but the team estimates it will happen in late June or early July.
