News release from the University of Saint Francis:
USF Formula for Life benefitting malnourished infants
(April 8, 2011) – Runners and walkers will toe the line to help malnourished Haitian infants in the third annual University of Saint Francis Formula for Life 5k run/walk and silent auction on Sunday, April 17 beginning at 1 p.m. at Hutzell Athletic Center. The event raises money to purchase baby formula and cereal for underfed Haitian infants, many of them orphaned.
Founded in 2009 by then-USF student Cortney Shepard, the service-based, student-led campaign is a yearlong student effort. Last year’s event drew over 200 people and garnered over $6,000 to send to Haitian child care facilities as needs there unfold. The fund provided a recent shipment of 3,600 meals of toddler cereal and 7,680 meals of formula for starving babies, with reserves to serve many more yet to be identified.
Runners/walkers will register beginning at 12:30 p.m., when the music and silent auction bids will begin and continue throughout the end of the run/walk. When all participants have finished the course, lunch will be served.
The cost to participate is $15 per person or $12 per person for families of three or more, which includes lunch. The first 200 runners/walkers to register will receive free event t-shirts. Access to Hutzell Athletic Center is off Leesburg Road bordering the east side of the south campus.
