Holcomb Statement on the release of GOP Redistricting Maps

Statement from Indiana GOP Chairman, Eric Holcomb:

Statement by IND GOP Chairman Holcomb on Release of GOP Redistricting Maps

(INDIANAPOLIS – April 11, 2011) – Indiana Republican Party State Chairman Eric Holcomb released the following statement following the unveiling of redistricting maps by the House and Senate GOP caucuses:

“The legislative and Congressional maps released by House and Senate Republicans today are the result of an exhaustive process that included input from Hoosiers at nine public redistricting forums held across the state.

“Despite Democrats’ prolonged absence from the House, Republicans ensured public participation was never put into jeopardy.

“As Hoosiers inspect the maps over the coming days, they will see Republicans’ stated commitment to respect communities of interests in fair and compact districts translated to paper.

“In fact, in three cases Republican incumbents have been drawn into the same district; and in another case a Republican and Democrat are in the same district.

“These newly proposed lines are fair, equitable and will result in better representation for Hoosiers in the Statehouse and our Nation’s Capital.”
