USF awarding $3,000 to exhibiting SOCA artists

(March 22, 2011) – The School of Creative Arts (SOCA) at the University of Saint Francis will award $3,000 in scholarships to students during an awards ceremony at the opening of the 34th annual SOCA Student Exhibition Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the North Campus Auditorium at 2702 Spring St.

The ceremony will honor SOCA student artists, musicians and scholars for high achievement in their fields. Scholarships to an outstanding freshman, sophomore, junior and senior, among other awards, will be presented.

Other opening night activities will take place in the Rolland Center for Art and Visual Communication off Leesburg Road and at the North Campus before the ceremony.

Art and music will be showcased in the Weatherhead and Goldfish galleries in the Rolland Center and in the Lupke Gallery at the North Campus from 6-9 p.m. More than 500 student pieces will be displayed. The University Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. in the North Campus Auditorium.

The exhibition will run through May 6. The Weatherhead and Goldfish galleries are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. The Lupke Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

SOCA is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Founded in 1944, NASAD establishes national standards for art and design undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials. Approximately 297 institutions make up its membership.
