Webmaster’s note: When I arrived this morning for the news conference and was handed the release, my first thoughts were, “You drug me down here for 3D?”
I have never connected with the whole “3D” thing. Â Remember those visual 3D images years ago that were all the rage? Â Sometimes, I’d get it, sometimes not and usually after wasting many minutes trying. Â I’ve been to a couple of 3D movies, but the technology is still lost on me.
Now, while I cannot show you video that would accurately replicate what I saw this morning on the huge video screen/scoreboard at Parkview Field, I can tell you it was pretty sharp and for the first time, I really “got” the whole phenomenon.
The clip of the opening day logo sort of floating there was GREAT! Â There was another set of logos from all the teams in the Midwest League that also seemed to be floating off the screen. Â If what I saw this morning is any indication, you’ll not want to miss opening day!!
One other thing. It would have been so easy for the TinCaps to kick back and rest solely on the laurels of a beautiful ball park and unforgettable first season. Instead, they continue to search for ways to raise the bar and bring new experiences and excitement to our downtown. The TinCaps deserve a huge round of applause and kudos for their tireless efforts to provide an experience worth coming back to game after game and season after season. Great job, TinCaps!!!

Opening Night to feature 3D video
PUNCH Films brings 3D to Parkview Field’s third openerToday the Fort Wayne TinCaps announced their partnership with Fort Wayne-based film and HD production company, PUNCH Films. The result of this partnership will bring 3D video to Parkview Field for Opening Night festivities on Thursday, April 7.
“As a team, we are always looking for ways to raise the bar,” TinCaps Vice President of Marketing Michael Limmer said. “Opening Night at Parkview Field continues to be a can’t-miss event. For year number three we were looking for ways to take advantage of one of Parkview Field’s most unique features, the giant video board. We approached PUNCH Films to see if 3D was even an option. As soon as they said ‘yes’ we ran with it.”
Opening Night will feature several 3D video board features throughout the game. “We’ll make sure to prompt fans when it’s time to put on their special 3D glasses,” Limmer said.
Every fan will receive a pair of glasses when they enter the ballpark. The 3D video experience will begin just before the team takes the field and continue throughout the game during several of the breaks between innings. The TinCaps’ free gameday program will also feature a 3D cover.
“I’ve never heard of another professional team featuring 3D video technology in this way, so this is a ground-breaking event for the TinCaps,” Limmer stated. “The fans in this community have come to expect a high level of entertainment at Parkview Field and this experience will certainly be unique. This is a one-time only event, so if you’re not at Opening Night you’re going to miss out.”
Fort Wayne-based PUNCH Films spearheaded the technology and logistics of the 3D video features. “We’ve had the opportunity to work with the TinCaps since 2009,” Derek Devine of PUNCH Films said. “When the team approached us with the idea for 3D on the video board we jumped at the challenge. With 3D video and film becoming more prevalent in the theaters and 3D televisions available for the home, it made sense to help the TinCaps bring 3D to the ballpark.”
