FWCS students recognized for nutrition knowledge

(March 18, 2011) – Nine Fort Wayne Community Schools students have been recognized for writing about their favorite school lunch.

FWCS’ Nutrition Services Department challenged students in kindergarten through fifth-grade to write an essay on their favorite meal served by Nutrition Services. Bikes donated by McCain Foods will be given to the K-2nd grade winner and the 3rd-5th grade winner. Seven honorable mention winners will each receive a $10 gift card to Barnes & Noble.

The first place winners are Sabrina Rayl, a second-grade student at Holland Elementary, and Lamouje Thomas, a fourth-grade student at Indian Village Elementary. Lamouje will receive his bike during lunch (12:30 p.m.) at Indian Village, 3835 Wenonah Lane, on Monday, March 21. Sabrina will receive her bike during lunch (12:05 p.m.) at Holland, 7000 Red Haw Drive, Thursday, March 24.

Honorable mention winners are: Isabel Alfaro, kindergarten, Bunche; Kendall Mowery, first grade, Washington Center; Neely Shuherk, second grade, Brentwood; Abigail Moher, second grade, St. Joseph Central; Daniel Gaspar, fourth grade, Study; Camden Lytle, fifth grade, Brentwood; Dejah Lowery, fifth grade, Northcrest.
