Parkview Field going green Wednesday
Grounds crew to dye field green

(March 15, 2011) - The TinCaps will help jump-start Fort Wayne area St. Patrick’s Day festivities on Wednesday by painting Parkview Field green – literally. The grounds crew will spray green turf dye on both the infield and outfield grass to help get it ready for Opening Day. The dye is used for more than just a cosmetic effect. It stimulates warmer soil temperatures and early spring growth.

“Having done this procedure before, it’s fun to watch turf seemingly come to life before your eyes,” TinCaps head groundskeeper Keith Winter said. “By the time the whole field is painted, it really looks like it is ready for a baseball game.”

Winter and assistant groundskeeper Rob Dworkin will apply the dye Wednesday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. In the next three weeks, they will continue to prepare the playing surface for TinCaps Opening Day, set for April 7.

Tickets, group outings and picnics for the TinCaps’ 2011 season are on sale now. Visit TinCaps.com or call (260) 482-6400 for more information.
