Doden: Mayor must make education a priority
Quality education opportunities at all levels key to city’s quality of lifeRepublican mayoral candidate Eric Doden today announced plans to enhance partnerships between the city and the educational community if elected mayor. Working to increase the quality of educational opportunities for Fort Wayne residents is a critical component of Doden’s plans for modernizing Fort Wayne’s economy and attracting, creating and retaining local jobs.
“The mayor is uniquely positioned to market the capabilities of the city’s workforce to new and existing employers,” Doden said. “And the capabilities and quality of our city’s workforce starts with the capabilities and quality of our local educational system. The jobs we are competing for require well prepared students and well trained citizens. Our city has the institutions to ensure that we are creating more of both. I’ll work hard to make sure that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
Doden’s plan is designed as a strategic partnership with city K-12 educational leaders and parents. The plan seeks to market Fort Wayne’s existing educational opportunities and results, while also increasing parental involvement and school accountability.
“As part of my role as the city’s chief marketing officer, I’ll consistently engage with employers, sharing with them how our educational opportunities and skilled workforce help make Fort Wayne a great place to do business,” Doden said. “Employers and entrepreneurs want to know what we are doing to prepare our citizens for the workplace, because education speaks directly to the strength of our workforce. Creating jobs is key, just as is having educated and well-trained citizens ready to fill those jobs.”
In addition to focusing on K-12, Doden will emphasize how the city can enhance the reputation and market the capabilities of the city’s institutions for higher education. Job creators looking at Fort Wayne must find a strong partnership between the mayor, the local K-12 school districts and the colleges and universities located here.
Over the last several weeks, Doden has made a series of announcements outlining his comprehensive plan to create and retain jobs and attract investment to Fort Wayne. Last week Doden announced his plan to operate city government with an emphasis on transparency, productivity and world-class customer service. Prior to that, Doden announced plans to market Fort Wayne in a targeted and aggressive campaign; announced his vision to leverage a portion of the light-lease fund to attract capital projects to Fort Wayne, as well as attract and retain a talented workforce; and unveiled his initiative to attract 1,000 entrepreneurs to Fort Wayne. For the past two-plus years, Doden has served as the director of investments at Ambassador Enterprises, a Fort Wayne-based consulting, investment and private equity firm.
