D.O. McComb & Sons announces sponsorship of 20th Alan Wolfelt grief seminar

D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes, with locations in Fort Wayne and Auburn, announces its sponsorship of a pair of community seminars featuring renowned author and grief counselor Dr. Alan Wolfelt aimed at helping and supporting both mourners and caregivers during the grieving process.

The first seminar, “Helping Your Grieving Heart When Someone You Love Has Died,” will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, in the Appleseed Room at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The second seminar, “Exploring the Dimensions of Adult Grief: The Caregiver’s Role,” will take place on Wednesday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., also in the Appleseed Room at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

There’s no charge to attend either program, with one exception: There is a $29 fee for funeral-service workers based outside of Allen or DeKalb counties to attend the caregiver seminar. This is the 20th year D.O. McComb & Sons has sponsored and made available to the community Dr. Wolfelt’s program. The deadline to reserve a seat for either session is April 8.

“Dealing with the death of a loved one is extremely difficult,” David McComb, co-owner of D.O. McComb & Sons, said. “Dr. Wolfelt has created a program that is essential for anyone who is grieving. He will offer ways to cope and understand your grief as well as the importance of allowing yourself to grieve.”

“Helping someone deal with the death of a loved one is extremely difficult,” Walter A. McComb Jr., president of D.O. McComb & Sons, said. “Dr. Wolfelt has created a program that is essential for anyone who cares for the bereaved, including licensed professionals. We have found that clergy, nurses, social workers, counselors, hospice workers and other caregivers all benefit from the seminar.”

“Giving a caregiver the information they need to help others is the goal of programs such as these. You can never be ‘over-educated’ in this area,” David McComb added. “We feel these seminars are not only important to funeral directors, but also to caregivers.”
