Hydrologic Outlook signifies possible flooding next week

The National Weather Service has issued a Hydrologic Outlook for the next week:

HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTHERN INDIANA
512 AM EST FRI FEB 25 2011 /412 AM CST FRI FEB 25 2011/

…SIGNIFICANT RIVER FLOODING POSSIBLE NEXT WEEK…

SNOW MELT AND HEAVY RAINFALL SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY WILL RESULT IN A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING NEXT WEEK.

SNOW WATER EQUIVALENTS RANGE BETWEEN ONE HALF INCH TO TWO INCHES ACROSS THE AREA. WARMER AIR MOVING INTO THE AREA SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT WILL MELT THIS SNOW RAPIDLY. IN ADDITION…A STRONG STORM SYSTEM WILL BRING A POTENTIAL OF HEAVY RAIN TO THE REGION SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY. WIDESPREAD RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES ARE LIKELY WITH ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS. WATER LEVELS ON MANY AREA RIVERS REMAIN
HIGH FROM RECENT MELTING SNOW…AND THIS HEAVY RAINFALL COMBINED WITH RUNOFF FROM THE RAPIDLY MELTING SNOWPACK SUNDAY AND MONDAY WILL RESULT IN A LIKELIHOOD FOR RIVER FLOODING NEXT WEEK.

RESIDENTS IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS AS THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY RAINFALL…RUNOFF FROM MELTING SNOW…AND SATURATED GROUND MAY LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT FLOODING NEXT WEEK.
