News release from Congressman Marlin Stutzman (IN-03):

Stutzman votes for FY 2011 Budget cuts

(Washington D.C. – February 19, 2011) – Congressman Stutzman (IN-03) early this morning voted to make dramatic cuts to the federal budget for the remainder of 2011.  Hundreds of amendments were filed to cut or protect funding for individual programs opening up the budget process.  After nearl 100 hours of debate the House voted on a Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government for the remainder of FY 2011.  The budget is now sent to the Senate for consideration.

“Two years following the passing of the Obama Stimulus Plan which lead to higher unemployment and bigger deficits, we have started to right the ship by making cuts to the 2011 budget,” said Stutzman.  “I am happy that after a very long week of open debate we have cut over $60 Billion of spending which is a start to getting deficit spending under control.  it is difficult to vote to cut programs that are important to Hoosiers but, these cuts are necessary to bring our spending under control.”

Congressman Stutzman represents the 3rd Congressional District of Indiana and serves on the House Committee on Agriculture, the House Committee on the Budget and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity.  Indiana’s 3rd District contains all of DeKalb, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Noble, Steuben, and Whitley counties; as well as parts of Allen and Elkhart counties.
