Mike Avila declares for the 4th District

Democrat Mike Avila declared his candidacy for the Fort Wayne City Council 4th District seat today.

The seat is currently held by Republican Mitch Harper who is also president of the Council this year.  Politicos in attendance included former Allen County Democratic Party Chairman and current spokesperson Kevin Knuth and Jack Morris who ran against Indiana State Senator Tom Wyss last November. Avila announces bid for City Council 4th District

Mike Avila announced that he would run for Fort Wayne City Council 4ili District on the Democratic ticket.

Avila says: “I found out early on in my career that I had leadership skills. I liked being in charge, directing the wbrkforce, making tough decisions. I never take the approach someone else can do it.”

Avila is a lifelong resident of Allen County, and has lived the last 30+ years within the city limits of Fort Wayne. He and his wife Kim rave been married 30 years and have 2 daughters. Marie is married and teaches 2nd grade and Beth is teaching at the University of St. Francis.

Avila served an apprenticeship in bricklaying, becoming a journeyman. Around 15 years ago, he was offered the position of business manager of Bricklayers Local 4 IN/KY. He is now Vice Chairmen of Bricklayers Local 4, covering all of Indiana and most of Kentucky and also Vice President of the Northeast Indiana Building and Construction Trades.

“My experience has put me in position to be a leader in the community, and has taught me to act in the best interest of as many people as possible, and to interact on a personal basis with as many people as possible,” said Avila.
