Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center to host programs

(February 14, 2011) – Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center will host several upcoming programs. The programs are free and will be held at the center on the Parkview North campus, entrance 4. Nancy Ehmke, RN, MN, AOCN, oncology advanced practice nurse, will lead the sessions.

 

Cancer 101
10-11 a.m., third Wednesday of each month, beginning February 16 in the Wellness Suite on the third floor of the Cancer Center

[li]How is cancer treated? Learn why certain treatments are recommended for specific types of cancer, and find out about minimizing treatment side effects.[/li]
[li]Living with cancer. Learn coping strategies to deal with the emotions that surface when cancer intrudes into your life or the life of your loved one.[/li]

Chemotherapy, Biotherapy and You

1-2 p.m., first and third Thursdays of each month, beginning February 17 in the Wellness Suite on the third floor of the Cancer Center

Participants will learn about how chemotherapy and biotherapy treatments work, the potential benefits and side effects and self-care measures to prevent or minimize side effects.

Answers from a Cancer Expert

1-3 p.m., second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, beginning February 22 from 1-3 p.m. in the Cancer Center lobby

Receive easy-to-understand, practical answers to your cancer questions in one-on-one Q&A sessions. The service is aimed at helping patients and others feel comfortable asking questions in a casual setting.
