Possible Paddock run for the 5th?

Democrat Geoff Paddock is considering a run for the Fort Wayne City Council’s 5th District seat.

This morning, incumbent Councilman Tim Pape, also a Democrat, sent via e-mail a statement that he would not be seeking re-election to the 5th District seat. Pape has held the seat for three terms, commencing with the 2000 – 2004 term.

This afternoon, an e-mail was received from Paddock who stated he has been encouraged by several to run for the open Council seat and is considering the possibilities.

Paddock was elected to the Fort Wayne Community School Board and served from 2002 to 2006 and was president in 2006.  Paddock is currently the executive director of the Headwaters Park Alliance which oversees operation of the ever-popular downtown venue.  He is also a member of the board of directors of the Indiana High Speed Rail Association and founding board member of the Northeast Indiana Passenger Rail Association (NIPRA).  He has been a strong advocate for bringing passenger rail service back to Fort Wayne, and in particular, high speed rail.

I spoke with Geoff on the phone this afternoon and I would expect a decision early next week.
