Media release from the Fort Wayne League of Women Voters:

(January 31, 2011) – The Fort Wayne Area League of Women Voters (LWV) has scheduled a dinner on February 16 for those wanting to learn more about the new Fort Wayne League and to celebrate the 91st anniversary of the organization’s founding at the national level.

The dinner will be at The History Center, 302 East Berry, Fort Wayne, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Reservations must be made by February 14. Dinner is $15 per person for dues paying members and $18 for those who are not members.

Speaker for the evening is Geoff Paddock, executive director of the Headwaters Park Alliance and a member of the board of directors of the Indiana High Speed Rail Association.

Paddock will speak on the efforts to bring high speed rail service to northeast Indiana.

Paddock has been a long time advocate of returning passenger rail service to Fort Wayne, which has seen a 20-year absence in service, and has worked to see that Fort Wayne was added as an important link in a proposed high speed rail route between Chicago and Cleveland. He is a founding board member of the Northeast Indiana Passenger Rail Association.

LWV is a non-partisan political organization created 91 years ago to encourage informed and active participation in government, to increase understanding of major public policy issues and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.

Membership in the LWV is open to both women and men. A membership form is available on the organization’s website at www.lwvfw.org.

Information is also available from LWV convener, Nancy McCammon-Hansen, at 260.494.8209 or nmccammonhansen@frontier.com.
