From Tuesday’s announcement by Ken Nicolet

Statement from The Citizens for Nicolet campaign:

Ken Nicolet Announces Bid for City Council Seat

(February 9, 2011) – Respected City of Fort Wayne veteran Ken Nicolet publicly announced his intent to run as a Republican candidate for the 1st District City Council position at a kick-off press conference at the Republican Headquarters on Tuesday, February 8th. Ken was introduced by his daughter, Laura Nicolet, in front of a small crowd that had gathered to witness the announcement. After acknowledging his mother, sister, brother-in-law and son who were in attendance, he defined his reasons for running and outlined his extensive qualifications and experience as a “Trusted Advocate with Proven Service”.

Having served under three mayors in Fort Wayne, Ken elaborated on his background, from his public service as Mayor’s Advocate for neighborhood associations/partnerships, Manager in Public Works, and Street Commissioner to his tenure as St. Joe Township Trustee and member of the St. Joe Township Advisory Board. Ken also spoke about his experience in the private sector working with 3M, Warner Lambert Pharmaceuticals American Optical Division and Indiana Institute of Technology. He described how he has remained active in the community through his support of the March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Fraternal Order of Police and his volunteer work with Crime Stoppers and Junior Achievement.

A native of Fort Wayne, Ken stated that his primary reason for seeking the 1st District seat is his passion to continue to serve his community. He emphasized that his focus was to listen to what the people of Fort Wayne wanted and make sure their voice was heard in City government. He discussed three areas in which he would concentrate his efforts while in office: ensuring a safe community, helping the City grow and prosper and job development through support of existing businesses and the attraction of new businesses. To accomplish these goals, Ken said he was committed to:

[li]Maintaining financial responsibility within City government[/li]
[li]Providing a healthy environment[/li]
[li]Continuing to provide the best city services[/li]
[li]Encouraging leadership from youth[/li]
[li]Preserving core values for existing and future generations[/li]

“My wife Jeanne and I have lived our entire lives in Fort Wayne. We raised our three children in this City, I want to do everything possible to assure Fort Wayne continues to be a ‘Great’ place to live for generations to come.”

Ken concluded the press conference by thanking attendees and answering questions.

The City’s 1st District, a largely suburban association of neighborhoods and businesses in the northeast corner of Fort Wayne, will have the opportunity to vote for party candidates, along with the rest of the City, in the primary elections scheduled for May 3rd.
