Stutzman Receives Committee on Agriculture Assignments

(Washington, DC – January 25, 2011) – Chairman Lucas announced the House Committee on Agriculture subcommittee assignments today following the official organizational meeting. Congressman Marlin Stutzman has been assigned to the two subcommittees he requested, the Rural Development, Research, Biotechnology, and Foreign Agriculture Subcommittee and the Conservation, Energy, and Forestry Subcommittee.

“This is a great opportunity to serve not just the farmers of Northeast Indiana but to serve everyone who is looking for a better quality of life.” stated Congressman Stutzman “Oversight of the Government Regulations that affect everything from employment to cost of living will be the emphasis of these Subcommittees.”

The House Committee on Agriculture, Subcommittee on Rural Development, Research, Biotechnology, and Foreign Agriculture will have jurisdiction on Rural Development, farm security and family farming matters, biotechnology, foreign agriculture assistance, and trade promotion programs, generally. The House Committee on Agriculture, Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy, and Forestry will have jurisdiction on soil, water, and resource conservation, small watershed program, energy and biobased energy production, rural electrification, forestry in general and forest reserves other than those created from the public domain.

Congressman Stutzman represents the 3rd Congressional District of Indiana and serves on the House Committee on Agriculture, the House Committee on the Budget and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity. Indiana’s 3rd District contains all of DeKalb, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Noble, Steuben, and Whitley counties; as well as parts of Allen and Elkhart counties.
