Press release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Fort Wayne, New Haven and Allen County Call Level One Snow Emergency

Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry, along with Allen County Commissioners Therese Brown, Linda Bloom, and Nelson Peters and New Haven Mayor Terry McDonald have declared a Level 1 Snow Emergency for Fort Wayne, New Haven and all of Allen County. At this time the Level 1 declaration restricts travel to emergency personnel only.

While crews are continuing to plow through the night the combination of continued snow, sleet and high winds causing large snow drifts, is making many roads impassable. Allen County remains under a Blizzard Warning until 7pm tomorrow.

At this hour, more than 300 homes are without power. A shelter has been up at the First Assembly of God Church, 1400 West Washington Center Road. Residents needing shelter should Call 311.

Garbage and Recycling in the City of Fort Wayne will not occur on Wednesday February 2nd.

Residents should remember to check on their neighbors during this storm.

The next update will come in the morning.
