Parkview to host upcoming events

(Jan. 24, 2011) – Parkview will host several events in February.

The Parkview Diabetes Treatment Center will lead a community forum on diabetes at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2 at the Allen County Public Library’s downtown branch, 900 Library Plaza. For more information, call (260) 373-4280.

Answers from a Cancer Expert – Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 1-3 p.m. in the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center lobby, entrance 4 on the Parkview North campus. Receive easy-to-understand answers to your questions from Nancy Ehmke, clinical nurse specialist, Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center. For more information, call (260) 266-9166.

Real Solutions Adult Weight Management Class – 10 week class beginning Monday, Feb. 7 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Parkview North Hospital. The program offers guidance, motivation and an action plan for people seeking to lose weight and improve their health. The cost is $100. To register, call (260) 672-6332.

The Impact of Cardiac Arrhythmias 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3
Dr. David Palmer, Fort Wayne Cardiology (a member of Parkview Physicians’ Group), will discuss signs and symptoms of heart disease. Participants will also learn about therapeutic drumming, an interactive technique that helps distinguish between the different types of heart rhythms. Also, learn how cardiac arrhythmia can impact your health. Free for Women’s Health Center members and $5 for non-members.

Straight from the Heart – Atrial Fibrillation Education
10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4 at Parkview Women’s Health Center on the Parkview North campus
8 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15 in the lobby at Parkview Hospital, 2200 Randallia Dr.
Schedule a 15-minute appointment to learn more about atrial fibrillation. Free for Women’s Health Center members and $5 for non-members.

Electrocardiograms (EKG) Screenings 9 a.m.-noon Monday, Feb. 7 and 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Feb. 21
$5 for Women’s Health Center members and $10 for non-members.

Foot and Nail Care 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 and 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22
Nail and skin care services for your feet. $20 for Women’s Health Center members and $30 for non-members.

Ask the Dietitian 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9
Schedule 15 minutes with registered dietitian Julia Just to have nutrition questions answered. The event is free.

Osteoporosis Screening 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15
The screening lasts 15 minutes and can provide valuable information and help. $5 for Women’s Health Center members and $10 for non-members.

Foot Screenings with Michael McManus, Ortho NorthEast Noon-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16
For people experiencing pain, difficulty walking, changes in foot structure, or any condition of the skin or nails. Free for Women’s Health Center members and $5 for non-members.

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) — When You’re Too Tired to Participate 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17
Join Dr. Mark O’Shaughnessy, Fort Wayne Cardiology, and Ronda George with Parkview Heart Institute’s Congestive Heart Treatment Center, as they address the physical and emotional symptoms associated with CHF. Learn what you can do to prevent CHF and the newest treatments for people who experience it. Free for Women’s Health Center members and $5 for non-members.
