…WINTER WEATHER AND WIND CHILL ADVISORIES TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING FOR FAR SOUTHWESTERN LOWER MICHIGAN INTO PORTIONS OF NORTHERN INDIANA AND NORTHWEST OHIO…

.A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL PUSH THROUGH THE REGION TONIGHT. WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 15 TO 25 MPH…WITH HIGHER GUSTS POSSIBLE. THE GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS WILL BRING MUCH COLDER AIR INTO THE REGION WITH LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS DEVELOPING ACROSS FAR SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN. LAKE EFFECT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 4 INCHES CAN BE
EXPECTED OVER PORTIONS OF BERRIEN AND CASS COUNTIES. LAKE EFFECT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL COMBINE WITH GUSTY WINDS AND RESULT IN AREAS OF BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW LATE THIS EVENING THROUGH MIDDAY FRIDAY AS WELL AS WIND CHILLS OF 10 TO 15 BELOW ZERO.

MANY AREAS OUTSIDE THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW BELT CAN EXPECT WIND CHILLS DOWN TO AROUND 15 BELOW ZERO LATE TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING…ESPECIALLY SOUTHWEST OF A LINE FROM ELKHART TO FORT WAYNE. IN ADDITION…AREAS THAT RECEIVED AN INCH OR MORE OF SNOWFALL TODAY MAY BE PRONE TO BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW…SUPPORTING DECREASED VISIBILITY AND DETERIORATING
ROAD CONDITIONS…ESPECIALLY IN RURAL AREAS.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN INDIANA HAS ISSUED A WIND CHILL ADVISORY…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM TO NOON EST FRIDAY.

* WIND CHILL VALUES…15 BELOW TO 20 BELOW FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING.

* OTHER IMPACTS…WIND CHILLS AT THESE VALUES MAY CAUSE FROSTBITE TO EXPOSED SKIN WITHIN 30 MINUTES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS…MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES.
