Statement from the Paula Hughes for Mayor campaign:
Paula Hughes signs taxpayer protection pledge
Only Candidate to Protect Small Businesses and Fort Wayne CitizensToday, Former Allen County Council President and Republican candidate for Mayor, Paula Hughes, signed the Americans for Tax Reform “Taxpayer Protection Pledge.”
Hughes is the only candidate for Fort Wayne Mayor to sign the pledge and to stand up for the principles of smaller government and empowering the people of Fort Wayne to decide how best to spend their hard-earned paychecks.
“Businesses and residents alike must know that we are committed to creating an environment where they can flourish and grow,” Hughes said. “With my experience in business development and job creation, I have seen firsthand how a stable tax structure can improve our economy.”
Paula Hughes is no stranger to the need for an inviting business climate. Just this past year, Hughes worked with GM, Allen County, and the City of Fort Wayne to keep high-paying jobs here and gave them the incentives to grow.
“Under the Hughes administration, Fort Wayne will be open for business,” Hughes proclaimed. “Fort Wayne is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Signing the taxpayer protection pledge is the first step to growing our struggling economy.”
As President of County Council, Paula Hughes has proven that she can govern as a conservative. During her eight-year tenure, Allen County went from an $8 million deficit to a $22 million surplus while protecting the interests of taxpayers.
Paula Hughes serves on numerous community boards and was the first full-time President of the Downtown Improvement District. She also sits on the board of her family’s small business, Transmission & Fluid Equipment, Inc. Paula Hughes is married to her husband, Chris, and they have one son.
