Economic Development Alliance works with Regional Partnership to receive certification

(December 7, 2010) — The Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance announced today that it has successfully completed the process of obtaining site certification for the James E. Kelley Aero Centre property. The site, which is located at the Fort Wayne International Airport, was “Certified Site Ready” by the Strategic Development Group, a professional site selection firm.

“Participating in this process helped us to compile information for this site in a format most desirable by site location consultants,” said Ashley Steenman, senior development officer for the Alliance.

The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority is the proprietor of the James E. Kelley Aero Centre. The site is made up of 108 divisible acres that can be used for both aviation and non- aviation purposes and is ideal for light industrial use. Certification minimizes risk to the future developer, which can reduce costs and expedite the permitting process.

“Obtaining this designation will increase awareness of the Kelley Aero Centre and make it highly marketable to business owners and site locators,” stated Tory Richardson, executive director of airports for the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority.

The “Certified Site Ready” program is an initiative launched by the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and funded by the Northeast Indiana Foundation. The process was set in place to expand northeast Indiana’s inventory of development-ready sites. To qualify as “Certified Site Ready,” a site must be appropriately zoned, easily accessible, controlled by a public entity, have the necessary utility infrastructure in place and no environmental barriers.
