Today marks the 69th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack by the Japanese.
Some might be fatigued with Veteran’s Day having been almost a month ago and the recent funeral of Staff Sgt. Kevin M. Pape, but I would suggest that we each reflect on December 7th, 1941 and honor in our own way the brave men and women who were injured and died on that day. Â It is good that we remember the reasons we have gone to war over. Â It is good that we remember those who sacrificed themselves so that we might all enjoy a better quality of life. Â In this case, it’s important we remember why we went to war with Japan and only days later Germany as well – to end tyranny and a holocaust of unimaginable proportions.
But while we do this, it’s also good that we reflect on how we treat those around us who are down-trodden. Â We need to pick our neighbors up when they need it, help the man in the street when possible and insure that we truly appreciate the gift of being born an American. Â Say thank you to a soldier – past or present! Â When we do this, we honor the spirit of all of the good men and women who served, who were injured and those who died December 7th. Â We keep that spirit alive and most importantly, this Country as well.
Tonight, there is a Pearl Harbor Day Remembrance Ceremony at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum:
The Allen County Council of Veterans and the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum will host a Pearl Harbor Day Remembrance Ceremony in Memorial Hall on Tuesday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m.
The public is welcomed to attend and honor the men and women who were lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
