North Side students make holidays bright with party for kids surviving cancer

(November 30, 2010) – North Side High School will host its 23rd annual Christmas Party for Kids Surviving Cancer from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at North Side, 475 E. State Blvd.

Student members of National Honor Society, Student Council and Key Club are combining their efforts this year to put together entertainment, food and gifts for the families of children who have had or are still faced with cancer.

About 80 students started planning for the event in early November. After school on Wednesday, Dec. 1, students will visit Meijer on Lima Road to buy gifts for the children. Students will stay after school on Thursday, Dec. 2, to wrap the gifts. About 20 families with 61 children are expected to participate in Sunday’s party.

“North Side has a strong tradition of making this party a highlight of the holiday season for the families involved,” said Mike Morris, who serves as the staff sponsor of the event. “Students look forward to seeing the families each year and enjoy bringing some cheer into their lives.”
