Firm to Provide Environmental Consulting Services for CCB Renovation Project
(December 3, 2010) – The Allen County Board of Commissioners today selected a firm to provide environmental consulting services during the planned renovation of the City-County Building.
The primary mission of ACM Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc. will be to oversee the abatement of asbestos-containing materials from areas of the CCB directly affected by the renovation project. Those materials include floor tile and adhesive, transite wall panels, fireproofing material and thermal system insulation.
ACM will also perform project design services; air sampling services; project safety, isolation and engineering controls; and develop informational meetings regarding the asbestos abatement work activities. Those meetings are expected to take place after the first of the year.
Michael Dials, ACM Vice President of Operations, told Commissioners that recent air sample results of the 40-year-old City-County Building were below permissible exposure limits for asbestos. Dials also said that while the asbestos-containing materials in the building are left undisturbed, they pose no health threat to employees or visitors.
An exact dollar figure for ACM’s work will be determined once the entire scope of the renovation project has been developed.
The renovation of the County-owned CCB is expected to start sometime next spring once work on the City-owned building at 200 East Berry Street is finished. A number of City and County government offices will move to East Berry, while the CCB will be converted to serve primarily as a headquarters for City and County police.
ACM, which has offices in Fort Wayne and other Midwest cities, already has experience working on environmental-related matters at the CCB dating back to 1995.
