Commissioners approve revised Highway Conversion Policy

Press release from the Allen County Board of Commissioners:

Commissioners Approve Revised Highway Conversion Policy

(December 3, 2010) – The Allen County Board of Commissioners today unanimously approved changes to the County’s highway conversion policy.

The policy outlines procedures and guidelines for changing stone roads in the county to chip and seal surfaces.

The revisions to the conversion policy include:

  • An improved process for securing right-of-way by requiring legal descriptions;
  • A fairer and more equitable evaluating system for road projects; and
  • A cost share between the County and residents of eminent domain procedures (per available funding within the Allen County Highway Department).

The revised policy was originally presented to the Board of Commissioners at its legislative session on November 19. But action was deferred until today to give the public time to submit comments.

Beth Garber-Lock, the Commissioners’ Government Affairs Director, reported that 25 residents submitted comments on the revised policy. 15 were in favor of the changes, while ten indicated opposition.

A copy of the revised policy is available by going to the Allen County Government website – www.allencounty.us.
