Press release from Trinity Episcopal Church:

Art of Incarnation topic of Advent series at Trinity Episcopal Church

Trinity Episcopal Church, 611 West Berry, Fort Wayne, will present a Wednesday evening series in Advent entitled “The Art of the Incarnation”.

Guest speaker will be Dr. Esperanca Camara, associate professor of Art History at the University of Saint Francis. All talks will begin at 6:30 p.m. There is no charge to attend and those attending are invited to “brown bag” their dinner.

Dr. Steven Crain, director of Young Adult Ministries at Trinity, will kick off the series on December 1, speaking on “The Incarnation as the Art of God”. Crain will address insights into the life and ministry of Jesus that lead us toward the discovery of thinking of Jesus as the “Art of God”.

Dr. Camara’s talks follow on December 8, 15, and 22.

December 8’s topic, “Let it be done to me according thy word”, will feature images of the Annunciation from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque Periods.

On December 15, Dr. Camara will present “For unto us a child is born: Portraying the Joyful Tidings of the Messiah’s Birth”.

“The image of the Christ child lying in the manger surrounded by Mary, Joseph, ox and ass has been a staple of Christmas for many centuries. In this talk, we will take a closer look at this familiar image in order to examine the pictorial means artists have used to highlight both its earthly humility and its celestial glory,” said Crain.

December 22, “All things were made by Him: The Natural World and the Word Incarnate”, will examine the idea of God as artist and present some reflections on the significance of the Incarnation for our perception of and relationship with the natural world.
