What’s Happening at the Botanical Conservatory
Candyland Holiday Exhibit: November 20 – January 2

Looking for a sweet holiday treat? The Con servatory offers the “eye candy” of gorgeous poinsettias spilling over a luscious scene of gingerbread men and giant peppermint candy canes. Meet at the gingerbread house, or take your family photographs at the foot of an over sized lollipop. Our popular twelve-foot-tall poinsettia tree will return with a candy twist. Reminiscent of the classic children’s board game, Candyland will please visitors of all ages! We’ll have our own version of a Candyland game for you to play. And don’t miss the rest of the Con servatory gardens dressed up in lights. We’re open Thursday and Friday nights until 8 pm, Thanksgiving to Christmas. The Bagel Station Uptown: Opening November 23
There’s something new taking root at the Botanical Conservatory and this time it isn’t a plant! Starting November 23, the Conservatory will host a new locally-owned business – the Bagel Station Uptown. The Bagel Station Uptown will be located within the Conservatory on the west side of the building with frontage on Calhoun Street. The new eatery compliments the facility’s mission to provide an attractive respite, educational experiences, and fun family recreation. Serving soups, salads, sandwiches, daily specials, pastries, and espresso beverages, the Bagel Station Uptown will offer a unique take on a home-grown Fort Wayne business. Adding to the diverse array of downtown eateries, the new café will also cater boxed lunches for local businesses and is capable of easily outfitting large groups of motorcoach visitors with a full meal or delicious treats for the road. The Bagel Station Uptown will be open Tuesday through Friday 7 am -5 pm, Thursdays until 8 pm, Saturday 10 am-5 pm , and Sunday noon – 4 pm. Free parking is available across the street in the Civic Center parking garage; metered parking is also available on Calhoun Street.$1 Night: Thursday, December 2, 5 – 8 pm
Admission to the Conservatory is just $1 from 5 – 8 pm on the first Thursday of each month. Visit during those hours and pay only $1 per person, adult or child. (Ages 2 and under are still admitted free.) Enjoy the Candyland exhibit as well as the Tropical and Desert Gardens.
Santa & the Reindeer: Saturdays, December 4, 11, 18, Noon – 4 pm
Santa and two of his reindeer will be on site to greet the children while Mom and Dad take pictures to capture the moment. Explore the Conservatory in its holiday glory. Anyone can be a scientist and it certainly doesn’t require a fancy degree to explore the wonders of our world. Join us in this special season of carols, bells and music as we experiment with ways to produce many different sounds. See how sound travels through the air to your ears and then find out how some sounds combine to make beautiful music while other sounds just end up as a noise. No reservations needed. Regular Conservatory admission applies: $5/adult, $3/child age 3-17. Participants in NISTEM (www.nistem.org) can also earn points for attending. Piñatas are a traditional party favorite in Mexi can culture, used at birthdays, Christmas par ties, and other celebrations. Come enjoy the creative display of piñatas in the Conservatory’s Desert Garden, designed and decorated by area children, community groups, and folks who just want to share the holiday spirit. At the end of the display, the candy-filled creations are donated to local children’s agencies for their holiday cel ebrations. Piñata Paradise is included in regular Con servatory admission: $5/adult, $3/child age 3-17. Children 2 and under are free. Northeast Indiana Fiber Artists – Northeast Indiana Fiber Artists was organized in 1996 and its members live in Allen, DeKalb, Elkhart and Noble counties in Indiana. They are a professional organization with members’ work being displayed in several different cities. Some members have also had their work published in national magazines.William Aeschliman M. D. – William is a current member of the Fort Wayne Photography Club. He has previously exhibited his artwork at the Allen County Public Library. He received second place and a Library Choice award during the library’s Z.E.E.D photo con test in 2008.
