Habitat for Humanity dedicates Neighborhood Stabilization Program home

Press release from the Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity:

Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity dedicates Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) home

(November 19, 2010) – The City of Fort Wayne has collaborated with Habitat for Humanity to sponsor its first home out of seven through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). The public is invited to attend the dedication of E’von Young’s home, located at 2504 Charlotte Avenue on Wednesday, November 24 at 12 Noon. There will be a short blessing of the house and opportunities to tour the house before and after the dedication.

“Through the NSP program in partnership with the City of Fort Wayne, we are able to expand our geographic area where we can build homes for our families. Habitat is very blessed to finally see our first NSP project come to an end and see a family moving into their new home,” said Justin Berger, Executive Director of Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity.

NSP is powered by $7 million from the federal Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008. NSP is administered by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Fort Wayne NSP is part of the national effort to restore homes and renew neighborhoods hit hardest by the recent housing crisis. The NSP signals opportunity for homebuyers and stronger neighborhoods with investments that go straight to the heart of our community. Focusing on vacant, foreclosed properties, the NSP blends the financial oversight of the City of Fort Wayne with the talents of private-sector housing professionals – builders, developers, architects, designers, realtors, appraisers and lenders.

About Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity
Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity is a 501(c)3 non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that uses volunteer labor to build simple, affordable homes through partnerships with low-income Allen County families. Once completed the homes are sold to the family with a $500 down payment and at no profit on a 20-year, interest-free mortgage. Because of volunteer involvement, the cost of a standard three-bedroom home is kept affordable at approximately $65,000, with the monthly mortgage payment around $350, which includes taxes and insurance. Mortgage payments are then reinvested in the community in the form of additional housing opportunities.
