Train Festival 2011 Rolls into Rock Island, Illinois July 21-24!
On July 21-24, 2011, the sounds of steam whistles, the clickety-clack of steel wheels on rails, and excited rail fans and families will fill Schwiebert Riverfront Park in Rock Island, Illinois for Train Festival 2011.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will feature rarely traveled passenger train excursion routes, Mississippi River excursions, beautiful Steam and Diesel locomotives, model train displays, vendors, and fun activities for children.
Attendees will have their choice of all day excursions to Iowa City, Iowa or Bureau, Illinois along with shorter 2-hour train rides behind various vintage locomotives. All train and riverboat departures and arrivals will take place at Schwiebert Riverfront Park right on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Rail and riverboat excursions are just part of the fun! Steam and Diesel Locomotives from around the country will be on display and open for tours and photo opportunities. Model Train collectors and organizations will feature beautiful model train layouts under the protection of large tents, and vendors from around the globe will be selling unique, one-of-a-kind train items and mementos you won’t find anywhere else.
Getting around the festival grounds will be fun too! Scaled down miniature trains will be hauling passengers of all ages. The miniature trains travel on steel tracks that will be arranged throughout the beautiful park setting.
