Brian Hamil, Fort Wayne resident, receives National Red Cross Award

(November 9, 2010) – Brian Hamil, a Fort Wayne resident and the National Chair for American Red Cross Biomedical Services, has been awarded the American Red Cross Presidential Award for Excellence. The prestigious national award recognizes outstanding employee and volunteer performance.

“In an organization where people typically give extraordinary effort, the Presidential Award for Excellence spotlights the best of the best,” says Sharyn Whitman, CEO for the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. “The entire Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region staff congratulates Brian on receipt of this honor.”

Brian Hamil won the Red Cross award for fulfilling the Red Cross mission. He has been an active and extremely valuable volunteer in various roles at the regional, Biomedical and national level for more than 20 years.

Four years ago, Brian conceived, developed and launched the American Red Cross/National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes Youth Leadership Program. The program seeks to inspire a new generation of Red Cross volunteers and leaders by selecting high-caliber college student athletes to participate in a two-week leadership training program at Red Cross national headquarters. Forty-three higher education institutions have participated; 62 students have attended the national headquarters program and received $2,000 scholarships. The program has grown from 23 blood drives to 124 blood drives during fiscal year 2010.

The Presidential Award for Excellence recognizes three areas that represent the heart of what great performance is all about at the American Red Cross: mission fulfillment, revenue generation and cost cutting. The award was presented at a ceremony on Red Cross Square in Washington, D.C., attended by the American Red Cross Board of Governors, the American Red Cross President and CEO and other Red Cross executives.
