1125 AM EDT MON OCT 25 2010

…VERY STRONG WINDS LOOKING INCREASINGLY LIKELY TUESDAY…

.A POWERFUL AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AND TRACK ACROSS THE REGION TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY. A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL SWEEP THROUGH ON TUESDAY WITH A SECOND FRONT MOVING IN ON WEDNESDAY. WINDS ALONG AND BEHIND THE FRONT WILL INCREASE TO AT LEAST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH. HIGHER GUSTS APPROACHING 60 MPH ARE POSSIBLE. IN ADDITION…SHOWERS AND EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED…WITH A POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGING WINDS WITH THESE AS WELL. THE STRONG WINDS WILL LIKELY DIMINISH INLAND TUESDAY NIGHT BUT CONTINUE NEAR THE LAKE. ON WEDNESDAY…STRONG WINDS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA. HOWEVER…QUESTIONS REMAIN EXACTLY HOW STRONG THE WINDS WILL GET FURTHER INLAND.

THOSE TRAVELING IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD MONITOR CONDITIONS AS TRAVEL ON TOLL ROADS COULD BE HAMPERED FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.

* TIMING…STRONG WINDS WILL ARRIVE TUESDAY MORNING AND THEN TAPER OFF TUESDAY NIGHT. STRONG WINDS MAY ARRIVE ONCE AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY.

* WINDS…SUSTAINED WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED WITH GUSTS TO AT LEAST 50 MPH. LOCALLY HIGHER GUSTS TO 60 MPH MAY OCCUR DURING AND OUTSIDE ANY CONVECTION.

* IMPACTS…HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES WILL HAVE DIFFICULTY TRAVELING. IN ADDITION…WINDS OF THIS MAGNITUDE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO TREES AND POWER LINES…CAUSING POTENTIAL POWER OUTAGES.

A HIGH WIND WATCH MEANS THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT. SUSTAINED WINDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH…OR GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR STRONGER MAY OCCUR. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
