Parkview leads tour of expanded and renovated Ortho Hospital

(October 14, 2010) – Parkview Ortho Hospital and Ortho NorthEast (ONE) officials today led a media tour inside the expanded and renovated Parkview Ortho Hospital on the Parkview North campus. The $20 million project has added 31,000 square feet, and more than half of the 61,000 square feet of existing space was renovated.

Expansion and renovation highlights:

  • Two new surgery suites
  • Larger surgical admission unit and post-anesthesia recovery area
  • Pre-admission testing services
  • Larger patient rooms that feature more comfort and a home-like feel for patients and family members
  • Enhanced ergonomics for patient and employee safety
  • Larger lobby area

One of the new features is the creation of patient-care navigators, who assist patients through the care process. The navigators coordinate pre-surgical appointments, answer questions, offer tips, and connect patients with resources and services to help make their procedure and recovery the best it can be.

Work began in May 2009 and will be substantially completed in November. The lead contractor on the project is W. A. Sheets & Sons. The Parkview Ortho Hospital is a joint venture between Parkview Health and ONE.

“We are pleased to be able to have additional space to provide needed services to patients,” said Julie Fleck, chief operating officer, Parkview Ortho Hospital. “Partnering with ONE, Parkview works to provide the best orthopedic care possible. We are committed to using the latest technology and care techniques to benefit patients and their families.”

The Parkview Ortho Hospital features 37 beds and eight surgery suites. The hospital provides treatment and care for arthritis, neck and back pain, sports injuries, joint replacement surgery, spine surgery, bone and joint surgery, foot deformities, hand problems, fractures and sprains, and work-related injuries. Additional services include an inpatient rehabilitation gym, and Club Ortho, a patient therapy and recovery program created especially for patients who require total joint or spine surgery. Patients are encouraged to have a family member serve as a “coach” to assist them with activities and therapies. Club Ortho members and coaches attend classes together to learn about the member’s surgery and rehabilitation.

A public open house will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17 at the Parkview Ortho Hospital, entrance 7 on the Parkview North campus. The open house will feature tours and refreshments.
