Money Smart Fair Set for October 14
Mayor Henry to Read Proclamation at 8:30 a.m.The 2010 Money Smart Fair is set to run Thursday, October 14, 2010 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the City-County Building Rotunda, One Main Street. Mayor Tom Henry, County Commissioner Linda Bloom, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago representative Alejo Torres, Vickie Hadley from the Purdue Extension Office and United Way CEO Todd Stephenson will speak briefly to participants at 8:30 a.m. in the City-County Building Rotunda.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit approximately 20 booths set up by non-profits, banks, and government organizations. The booths will provide information on everything from smart budgeting tips to refinancing a loan to filing for foreclosure.
Attendance at the MONEY SMART FAIR is completely free. Participants will be given punch cards to be used when visiting the various educational booths. The punch cards will be turned in for a drawing for door prizes. Parking is available in the City-County Building parking lot; the City of Fort Wayne will provide free parking to any individuals who complete the Money Fair punch card and survey. As part of Money Smart Week, classes are also being offered locally by several organizations. On Thursday, October 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., there is a Foreclosure Prevention and Default Options workshop at the Fort Wayne Urban League, 2135 S. Hanna St. Call 745-3100 to reserve a space for this free workshop.
On Saturday, October 16 from 9 a.m. to noon, Huntington Bank will pull a free credit report, explain the report and offer advice to participants for improving their credit score. This service is available for free at many Huntington Bank branches; interested residents should call 317-269-4879 to find the branch closest to them.
Finally, On Wednesday, October 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., residents are invited to a Financial Basics for Success class at the League for the Blind & Disabled, 5821 S. Anthony Blvd. Call 441-0551 to reserve a space at this free class.
Money Smart Fair and Money Smart Week are organized by the Financial Stability Partnership, a group of non-profit organizations, government and local businesses interested in helping area residents become more financially stable.
