Funds available to farmers for organic certification
(INDIANAPOLIS, September 17, 2010) – The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) encourages Hoosier farmers interested in organics to take advantage of program funds available through the National Organic Certification Cost Share Program.
Indiana has received funds through the Agricultural Management Assistance Program, authorized by the Federal Crop Insurance Act, to reimburse producers for the cost of organic certification. Producers may be reimbursed for their certification or recertification expenses between October 1, 2009 and September 30, 2010. Producers can receive up to 75 percent of their organic certification costs, not to exceed $750. Applications can be found on https://www.in.gov/isda/2740.htm. Additional information can be found on ISDA’s website under Entrepreneurship. Applications and documentation need to be submitted to ISDA by October 15, 2010.
“We hope that producers will take advantage of these funds but they will have to act quickly. The deadline is approaching,” said Amy Eizinger-Ott, ISDA grants coordinator.
