Press release from Fort Wayne Community Schools:

Holland accepts two major gifts for theraplay center

(October 1, 2010) – Holland Elementary School announced two major gifts for the purchase of a Theraplay Center for the school. Janett Lowes, the great-aunt of a Holland student, donated $25,000 and Sodexo donated $50,000 for the equipment.

Holland kicked off its campaign in the spring to raise $125,000 for the Theraplay Center. The equipment will provide the school’s physically handicapped students access to playground equipment that offers both an opportunity to play outdoors and equipment to assist in physical therapy.

The donations announced today put the school well on its way to meeting its goal. Through other donations and fundraisers, including a Burger King Benefit Night, Jar Wars and T-shirt sales, the school has collected about $7,500. The school would like to have funding for the entire project raised by next spring.

“This equipment will serve a critical need for our students,” Holland Principal Mike Caywood said. “We appreciate the generosity of all who have contributed so far, especially Mrs. Lowes and Sodexo. We are hoping others will follow their footsteps and help us reach our goal by next spring.”

Once the school has secured the funding needed for the equipment, the Theraplay Center will be built.
