Community Embraces Boundless Playground Competition
(September 10, 2010) – Fort Wayne residents have participated at a remarkable level in the boundless playground on-line voting challenge and Taylor’s Dream has a very real chance of winning $70,000.
Fort Wayne is one of three communities nationwide participating in a Pepsi Refresh Challenge sponsored by CVS/pharmacy to build a Boundless Playground. The challenge is part of the Pepsi Refresh Project, a groundbreaking effort that funds ideas, big and small, that can refresh the world.
“Now’s the time to make this dream a reality and you don’t even need to swing a hammer to build it,” said Mayor Tom Henry. “Just click on the website to cast your vote—every day! By working together, we can offer all children in our community a chance to get outdoors, enjoy playing together and have a lot of fun.”
In order to keep the momentum strong, a promotional video has been posted at www.fortwayneparks.org. There are only 18 days left to vote and citizens are encouraged to vote every day. Anyone 13 years and older with an e-mail address may vote. The website will announce the chosen idea on September 28, 2010.
The Boundless Playground initiative began when a young girl, Taylor Reuille, realized that there were children with disabilities who couldn’t play at many playgrounds. A Boundless Playground will offer amazing play opportunities for children with and without disabilities to play together, and will include amenities that address the needs of children with physical, developmental, cognitive and sensory disabilities.
“Children of all ages need to laugh and have fun,” said Taylor. “I am asking for your help to make the first Boundless Playground in Indiana.”
