IPFW to Host Career and Internship Fair – 9/23/2010

Press release from IPFW:

IPFW to Host Career and Internship Fair

(September 10, 2010) – With the national unemployment rate increase last month (from 9.5 to 9.6 percent—the first increase in four months), the 7th Annual Career and Internship Fair, offered by the office of Career Services at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), couldn’t come at a better time. The fair will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Walb Student Union Ballroom.

The fair is designed to connect students and alumni to local and national employers offering more than 60 full- and part-time job openings as well as numerous internships. “We hope that the fair will not only help students and alumni find employment opportunities, but will also help the unemployment situation throughout the area,” said Karen Obringer, career counselor and internship coordinator with IPFW’s Career Services office.

To help participants prepare for the Career and Internship Fair, IPFW’s Career Services will offer Job Fair Prep Sessions on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20 and 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days in Kettler Hall, Room 109. The prep sessions will teach strategies to help participants navigate the Career and Internship Fair and make the most of the opportunities to meet potential employers.

Before the fair, job seekers are also encouraged to visit two helpful Web sites created by IPFW’s office of Career Services:

  1. gives great tips on what to expect at a job fair and how to build an effective résumé;
  2. https://ipfwcareer.blogspot.com provides a video on how to work a job fair and offers advice on how to follow up with employers after the fair.

Both the Career and Internship Fair and the Job Fair Prep Sessions are offered at no charge. Students and alumni from IPFW, Purdue University,
Indiana University, and other local colleges are welcome to attend.
