Ivy Tech Community College, Purdue University announce statewide transfer agreement
(INDIANAPOLIS – August 20, 2010) – Ivy Tech Community College and Purdue University have established a new transfer agreement between the two state institutions. The new Culinology® specialty will provide graduates with the option to move directly into the Purdue University Food Science program as a junior, creating a “two-plus-two” transfer degree. The agreement is statewide, with Ivy Tech’s Indianapolis campus being the first to offer the specialty.
The Ivy Tech Culinology® program will be an additional specialty option in the Associate of Science degree in Hospitality Administration, with general education credits that represent a higher concentration on math and science to prepare students for the Bachelor of Science degree in culinary science at Purdue University. In preparation for the transfer agreement, Ivy Tech has created two new courses: Introduction to Culinology® and Biology and Chemistry of Food Manufacturing.
“We are excited about partnering with the Research Chefs Association and Purdue University to offer the first qualified educational program for Culinology® in Indiana,” said Chef Jeffrey Bricker, program chair for Ivy Tech’s hospitality administration program. “This partnership between Ivy Tech and the Purdue University Food Science program offers another career option for Indiana citizens interested in pursuing a career in the food industry.”
Culinology® is the integration of culinary arts, food science and technology practiced by Research Chefs who help to define the future of food. The term was coined by the Research Chefs Association, an organization formed in 1996 by a group of food professionals, comprised of chefs and food scientists working in food manufacturing, chain restaurants, hotels, ingredient supply houses, consulting and academia and other food professionals. Graduates from this program will be well prepared to find work as research chefs, working behind the scene in research/test kitchens developing gold standards for food production in either the food manufacturing or food service industries.
