2010 Three Rivers Festival celebrates successful event
(July 21, 2010) – The 2010 Fort Wayne Newspapers Three Rivers Festival, held July 9-17, ended with a bang this year with the Fireworks Finale presented by National Serv-All last Saturday night which police estimate was seen by more than 80,000 people in the Fort Wayne area.
“This year’s PNC Three Rivers Festival Parade theme was ‘Fun in the Sun,’ and we had plenty of that,” quoted Jack Hammer, Three Rivers Festival interim executive director. “The weather for the opening-day parade was beautiful and sunny, and more than 50,000 festival-goers enjoyed twirlers, floats and marching bands.”
Despite several humid 90-plus-degree days throughout the week, Food Alley served thousands of hungry diners on Three Rivers Festival favorites including elephant ears, corn on the cob and sati-babis, along with new favorites like fried butter and donut burgers.
The bed race saw a packed Main Street and a fourth win for DeBrand Chocolates with third place going to Coney Island – right in front of their own restaurant.
A diverse lineup of entertainment acts drew more than 25,000 people to the Plaza Pavilion in Headwaters Park, enjoying bands like Jars of Clay, NeedtoBreathe, Pink Droyd, Steel Magnolia and “Who’s Bad” The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band. This year’s lineup of local musicians proved once again there is no shortage of talent in northeast Indiana.
More than 11,000 moms, dads, kids and grandparents enjoyed two free days of fun and education at this year’s Children’s Fest located at the beautiful IPFW campus.
What’s a festival without thrill rides and games? Carnival rides filled both sides of Headwaters Park allowing more than 50,000 kids of all ages to enjoy a thrill at Fest Unlimited during their Three Rivers Festival experience.
