What’s Happening at the Botanical Conservatory in July

Meet the Artist Reception: July 11, 1-3 pm
Judy, a Fort Wayne native, developed a love for nature and photography at an early age. She has been shooting pictures since age 10 but became passionate about it with the purchase of her first digital camera in 2002. She has been doing stock photography since 2006. Judy regularly visits local parks to enjoy and capture their beauty.

Greek Garden Exhibit: July 3 -November 14 If the names of Perseus and Hercules stir a sense of adventure and heroism in you, visit the Conservatory during our summer exhibit of ancient Greek culture. The rocky terrain supports familiar herbs such as rosemary, lavender, and thyme as well as shrubs and trees like figs and olive. But this Mediterranean themed garden is just a backdrop for the story of a people who worked and played, fought and feasted where the sea meets the land. Come find out why the wisdom of this ancient culture has had such an impact on modern life. Sponsored by Media 401 and Fun 101.7 WLDE; supported by Neuhouser Nursery.

Family Fun Day: Tuesday, July 13, 10 am – 3 pm Have fun at the Conservatory during the Three Rivers Festival! Make crafts, get your caricature drawn, get a balloon animal, have your face painted and win prizes at games of skill and chance. Get lunch or a snack at our Food Court with 50-cent hot dogs and other items. Enjoy the bubble dance party, giant slide, moonwalk, and inflatable paddle pond. Explore our gardens indoors and out, including the ancient Greek garden and Trojan Horse. No reservations required; regular admission applies. A responsible adult must accompany children. Wear your TRF button to receive an admission discount. Admission is $5/adult, $3/child age 3-17, free for children 2 and under. For more details, call (260) 427- 6440. Jazz Under the Stars: Saturday, July 17, 7 – 10 pm Bring a lawn chair for an evening in the outdoor gardens enjoying Vintage jazz band and vocalist Francie Zucco. Settle into a spot on the Terrace or in the Exploration Garden, wander through the display gardens, enjoy the summer evening, and dance to the music.

Food and beverage will be available from Mad Anthony Brewing Company – please do not carry in food or beverage. Should it rain, you may seek shelter inside among the flowers. The Festival finale fireworks are beautifully visible from the Terrace right after the concert. Doors open at 6 pm. No reservations needed. Guided Garden Stroll: Thursday, July 29 Every fifth Thursday, staff will offer a guided garden tour at 6 pm for a behind-the-scenes look at the plants and designs of our theme garden and collections.

Botanical Roots Concert Series: Fridays, July 30-September 3
Doors open 7:30 pm / Opening act 8:30 pm Get ready for our fifth year of musical fun! Six concerts featuring Zydeco, Blues, Reggae, Americana music and more with local bands performing as the opening act. We’re still busy looking for the best bands we can bring so keep an eye out for more information on our website and myspace pages. Admission: $6/13yrs and older, 12 and under free.
