Re-Discover Our Rivers at IPFW RiverFest

(June 11, 2010) – Celebrate the river- on the river- at the IPFW RiverFest on June 26, 2010. The RiverFest SplashFest is about re-discovering our rivers by enjoying river activities. Festival goers will be able to take a pontoon ride down the river courtesy of Lake Gage Marina from 9 a.m.-noon and from 2-6:00 p.m., or check out a kayak at the Fort Wayne Outfitters tent and paddle about in shallow water from 10:30 a.m.-noon and from 2-4:00 p.m. Canoe and Kayak owners are invited to participate in USCA class races from 10-11:30 a.m., or run the obstacle maneuverability course from 2-4:00 p.m. All activities will take place on the St. Joseph River at the IPFW Venderly Bridge.

To leave no question that our rivers are a great place for water recreation, a sea plane and water skiers will put on a demonstration show from noon-2:00 p.m. When evening falls, the river will again be the site for a viewing spectacular. Lumninaria will be lit on the river bank, floating cauldrons of file will create pyro sculptures, and fireworks will light up the sky at 10:30 p.m.

The IPFW RiverFest is presented by Steel Dynamics in partnership with Fort Wayne Friends of the Rivers. The entire community is invited to the IPFW campus for RiverFest 2010—a day of festivity and celebration for one of Fort Wayne’s most prominent natural resources, our rivers. Families can enjoy nature, history, sports, water activities, and art, while music enthusiasts can enjoy performances throughout the day and rock bands in the evening until midnight. This event will stimulate interest in preserving our city’s rivers and support the initiatives of the Fort Wayne Friends of the Rivers.

Other RiverFest events include the RiverWalk/Run; FamilyFest hands-on activities and games; ArtFest Rivers and Bridges of Northeast Indiana Exhibition and Fine Arts and Craft Sale; RiverFeast food concessions and the YLNI Barr Street Market; and the Rockin’ the River band concert.
