Press release from IPFW RiverFest:

IPFW RiverFest Family-Friendly Walk/Run to Launch Fun-Filled Day on the River

(May 27, 2010) – It will be a fit-filled morning beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at the IPFW RiverFest RiverWalk/Run. The family-friendly 4 km course (2.5 miles) begins on the main drive of the IPFW campus near the Venderly bridge, travels through Johnny Appleseed Park, goes on St. Joe River Rd., enters the new River Greenway under Coliseum Blvd., crosses over the Venderly Bridge, and finishes at RiverFest’s FamilyFest. Participants will enjoy historic spots and entertainment along this St. Joseph River trail. Cost is $5 per person and $15 for a family of four. Click here for a preregistration form. Day-of registrations will be accepted at the event.

The “Go Fetch” animal card challenge is another unique feature of the RiverWalk/Run. Children will enjoy collecting Fort Wayne area river animal cards including catfish, ground hog, duck, fox, deer, fish, walleye, raccoon, muskrat, beaver, and river otter, each with different values. Gifts will be given to the top 10 “Go Fetch” winners. RiverFest RiverWalk/Run towels will be given to the first 250 participants.

The IPFW RiverFest is presented by Steel Dynamics in partnership with Fort Wayne Friends of the Rivers. The RiverWalk/Run is sponsored by Fort Wayne Area Association Realtors and support is provided by the IPFW Department of Athletics, Recreation, and Intramural Sports, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, Historic Fort Wayne Inc., Greenway Consortium, and City of Fort Wayne.

The entire community is invited to the IPFW campus for RiverFest 2010—a day of festivity and celebration for one of Fort Wayne’s most prominent natural resources, our rivers. Families can enjoy nature, history, sports, water activities, and art, while music enthusiasts can enjoy performances throughout the day and rock bands in the evening until midnight. This event will stimulate interest in preserving our city’s rivers and support the initiatives of the Fort Wayne Friends of the Rivers.

RiverFest events include the RiverWalk/Run; FamilyFest hands-on activities and games; ArtFest Rivers and Bridges of Northeast Indiana Exhibition and Fine Arts and Craft Sale; RiverFeast food concessions and the YLNI Barr Street Market; RiverRaces, RiverRides and RiverShow; and the Rockin’ the River band concert with fireworks and floating cauldrons of fire.
