IPFW RiverFest Announces Band Contest Winner for Rockin’ the River Event June 26

(May 18, 2010) – The people have spoken! The winner of the first-ever People’s Choice Band Contest for the Rockin’ the River event at the IPFW RiverFest on June 26, 2010, is Novafall. Novafall is the final band in the lineup for Rockin’ the River, which will begin at 4 p.m. and go until midnight as part of the all-day IPFW RiverFest event on the IPFW campus near the Venderly Family Bridge. Novafall will perform at 9:05 p.m.

The top three bands in the contest were Novafall, 689 votes (www.novafall.com); Sum Morz ,669 votes (www.myspace.com/sommorz); Cadillac Ranch, 524 votes (www.rancherslive.com). Music fans cast more than 2,800 votes in the contest, but in the end just 20 votes separated the top two bands. Rockin’ the River highlights the best of Fort Wayne’s music scene. Performing bands will include Novafall, The Kegels, Chris Worth, Crush, Lee Miles & The Illegitimate Sons, Borrowed Time, The Bergamot, Urban Legend, and Mosher Woods and the Marnee Project. Two stages along the bank of the St. Joseph River will provide for an amazing night of live music, with a backdrop of fire cauldrons on the river and fireworks illuminating the sky. Rockin’ the River is presented by Indiana-Purdue Student Government Association and sponsored by Lutheran Health Network, Sweetwater, and Tower Bank. Media sponsors are WXKE-FM Rock 104, and WANE-TV.

The IPFW RiverFest presented by Steel Dynamics will begin at 9 a.m. with a 4K family-friendly walk along the river. It will be a festive day for all ages from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with activities for children, fine arts and crafts, entertainment stages and music, a river show and river rides, and of course, fun food for all tastes. The entire community is invited to party at the river, celebrate the river, and rock the river!

The mission of the IPFW RiverFest in partnership with the Fort Wayne Friends of the River is to preserve, protect, and promote Fort Wayne’s rivers by raising awareness through education and fun.
