Celebrate Independence Day by Saving a Life
All American Blood Drive offers free stadium seat cushions for all donorsIt’s summertime at the American Red Cross and the Fourth of July is right around the corner. That means the All American Blood Drive is coming up – a great time to give the gift of life. This year’s blood drive will take place Monday, June 28 through Saturday, July 3, in Fort Wayne. Come to donate and receive a free American Red Cross stadium seat cushion.
The All American Blood Drive offers donors a way to celebrate Independence Day while saving lives. Blood is needed year-round, but the need compounds in the summer – and particularly around holidays – when vacation-related travel and activities increase the chance of accidents and injuries that require blood for lifesaving care. We all expect the blood to be there when we need it, but only 8 percent of eligible blood donors give the gift of life. The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to make and keep appointments to give blood during the summer to help maintain a stable blood supply.
The 2010 All American Blood Drive, sponsored by STAR 88.3 and WANE TV, will take place at two convenient Fort Wayne locations June 28 – July 3. Donors may schedule appointments by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or visiting redcrossblood.org. Times and locations are as follows:
Fort Wayne Donor Center: 1212 E. California Road (across from the Coliseum)
- Monday, June 28 – Thursday, July 1: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Friday, July 2 – Saturday, July 3: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Lutheran Hospital Donor Center: 7900 W. Jefferson Blvd., Suite 107 (in the South Lobby of Lutheran Hospital near the gift shop)
- Monday, June 28 – Wednesday, June 30: 12 noon – 6 p.m.
- Thursday, July 1 – Saturday, July 3: 6 a.m. – 12 noon
How to Donate Blood
To schedule an appointment to donate please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org for more information. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate.About the American Red Cross
