Press release from the TinCaps:

TinCaps put four on All-Star roster
Payne, Freiman, Sullivan and Schumacher on team

(June 9, 2010) – Four TinCaps were named to the Midwest League’s Eastern Division All-Star team. OF Danny Payne is listed in the starting lineup while INF Nate Freiman is a reserve and RHPs Jerry Sullivan and Nick Schumacher were also voted in.

Payne, 24, has been a spark at the top of the Fort Wayne lineup since being added to the roster in mid-May. He is batting .298 and has stolen nine bases in 23 games. Payne was a supplemental first-round pick in the 2007 draft out of Georgia Tech University.

Freiman, 23, was drafted out of Duke University in the eighth round last year. The hulking first baseman has been the TinCaps’ everyday cleanup hitter and is batting .301 with four home runs and a team-leading 34 RBIs.

Sullivan, 22, has won his last four starts to go to 5-2 with a 3.15 ERA. A third-round selection in last year’s draft, he is rated the Padres’ No. 19 prospect by Baseball America thanks to a mid-90s fastball and a sharp slider.

Schumacher, 24, is back with the TinCaps for a second season after setting a franchise record with a 1.11 ERA last season. Now the closer in Fort Wayne, Schumacher is 2-2 with 11 saves and a 2.41 ERA.

The rosters, released Tuesday, are subject to change due to injuries or promotions to higher levels. Tickets are still available for both the MWL Home Run Derby / Skills Competition on June 21 and the All-Star Game, scheduled for June 22.
