Press release from Fort Wayne Community Schools:

Enrollment underway for FWCS summer driver ed program
Enrollment is underway for Fort Wayne Community Schools’ second driver education summer session.

(June 17, 2010) – FWCS will offer driver education at Anthis Career Center, 1200 S. Barr St., from July 12-30. The courses are open to any student, whether they attend FWCS or not, who is at least 15 years old before the session he or she enrolls in begins. Students who are younger than 15 ½ years old and enrolling in a summer session must receive their learner permit before July 1, when a new state law takes effect. Students who receive a driver education learner permit before July 1 may attend driver education at 15 years old. Those who obtain the permit on or after July 1 must be at least 15 years and 180 days old.

The student also must be currently enrolled and in good standing with a high school. The State of Indiana requires perfect attendance to receive Driver Education Certification; therefore, students with conflicts during class hours, such as extracurricular activities or jobs, should not enroll.

Students can enroll in classroom only instruction, which is $85, driving instruction and road test, which is $310, or both for $395.
